Rock Songs About Anxiety and Overthinking

A song list · 14 songs · updated October 2026

Rock songs for a head that won't switch off. Most of this list is the 2000s stuff you already know by heart. A few are my own songs as ZN Rock, and they're marked so you can tell. Each one has a line on what it's about and a link, and both playlists sit at the bottom if you'd rather press play.

  1. Numb · Linkin Park

The closing song on Meteora (2003). It's about wearing yourself out trying to be what someone else expects of you, until you can't feel anything about it at all.

  2. Stressed Out · Twenty One Pilots

From Blurryface (2015), the album named after a character Tyler Joseph uses to stand for his insecurities. It's about missing being a kid now that money and other people's opinions keep you up.

  3. Still A Spark · ZN RockZN Rock

Sleepless nights, a head that starts turning on you, and trying to buy quiet with the thing that makes it worse. The one idea it holds on to: you're still a spark, and you can walk yourself home.

  4. Breath · Breaking Benjamin

A single from Phobia (2006) that spent seven weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart. Something, or someone, is slowly taking the air out of your life, and the song never says which.

  5. Breaking the Habit · Linkin Park

A Meteora single from 2004, written by Mike Shinoda and sung by Chester Bennington. It's about a self-destructive loop you can't explain and can't seem to leave.

  6. I'm Just Static · ZN RockZN Rock

Wearing a smile and a clean version of yourself for everyone while the real you is shouting underneath. It ends with tearing the mask down and picking a mess that's your own.

  7. Scars · Papa Roach

From Getting Away with Murder (2004), and a No. 15 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. It's about caring too much and the marks that leaves, the kind that don't fade when you want them to.

  8. Outside · Staind

Aaron Lewis first played it alone on the 1999 Family Values Tour, finishing the words as he sang, with Fred Durst on backing vocals. The studio version on Break the Cycle (2001) is about being on the outside, looking in.

  9. Heavy · Linkin Park feat. Kiiara

The lead single from One More Light (2017). Chester Bennington sings about problems stacking up inside his own head, most of them the kind that get heavier the more you think about them.

  10. Late Night Roll Call · ZN RockZN Rock

For the nights your head won't shut off and you end up in a loud online room full of regulars. They argue about everything, settle nothing, and never miss a night.

  11. Crawling · Linkin Park

From Hybrid Theory (2000), and the song that won Linkin Park the Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance. It's about losing control to something inside you and not trusting your own head.

  12. The Red · Chevelle

Chevelle's breakout single from Wonder What's Next (2002). Pete Loeffler wrote it about getting so angry you literally see red, and having to step back from whatever keeps feeding it.

  13. Still Standing Right Here · ZN RockZN Rock

Everyone wrote you off, you wrote yourself off too, and you're still here. A song about everything that should have broken you and didn't.

  14. Never Too Late · Three Days Grace

From One-X (2006). Adam Gontier has said it started out being about suicide and how it's never too late to change where you are, and that it later became more about just being present.
